A New Ware masking set in the BASIC range of kabuki tape for a large model of the Supermarine Spitfire in 1:24 scale, including the float conversion. The cut parts deal with the glazing of the cockpit faster than cutting by hand.

The set brings pre-cut masks of kabuki tape for a model of the legendary British Supermarine Spitfire fighter in the large 1:24 scale. The name of the set also mentions the variant on floats, which among Spitfires is a rather rare sight. The designation BASIC expresses the range: the basic level concentrates on the main glazing and the wheels, that is on what every builder needs to mask.
In 1:24 scale the canopy is a large piece of transparent plastic and every millimeter of inaccuracy is visible at first sight. Cutting strips by hand here can easily take an hour and the edge will still be left slightly ragged. A cut mask deals with the shape for you and holds even on the rounded surfaces that are more pronounced on large models. A bonus is that large parts are easy to lay on and break less than the small masks of small scales.
Degrease the glazing, transfer the parts with tweezers and press them down with a toothpick around the perimeter. Cover the inside of the outline with a strip of tape or with masking fluid. Apply the paint in thin coats; with a large model it is tempting to spray more at once, but that is exactly how a step is formed on the edge. Take the mask off shortly after drying, with a pull at a shallow angle. Do not throw the rest of the sheet away, as it will serve for the wheels and for masking camouflage transitions.
The set serves for masking while painting. It does not contain a model, paints or glue.
