A set of water-slide decals from the Japanese company Studio27 in 1:24 scale. Careful: you are not buying a kit, but the markings alone. The model of the car has to be obtained separately; the sheet is created for the Fujimi McLaren MP4-12C GT3 kit.

Which cars they are

The sheet covers two cars at once, No. 60 and No. 61 of the Italian Bhaitech team, from the race at Nogaro in 2014. That matters from the buying point of view: from one sheet you build a pair of stable mates and can display them side by side. Nogaro is a French circuit in the southwest of the country, one of the traditional European circuits, where GT3 was raced in 2014. Bhaitech entered the MP4-12C GT3 as a McLaren customer team.

Why reach for a decal sheet

A kit contains one livery, at most two, yet the MP4-12C GT3 raced with many teams and in many colors. A collector wants a particular car from a particular race, and that is exactly what a sheet solves. Other MP4-12C liveries exist as well: ART Grand Prix No. 98 from Monza, Boutsen Ginion No. 15 also from Monza and Dörr Motorsport from the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring. This sheet is the only one that offers a pair of cars.

Practical tips for the markings

• The base has to be glossy. On matte clear coat a decal silvers and the edges show, which is prevented by a gloss alone, not by a repair after it has dried.
• On the fenders and curved sides use decal softener; large sponsor markings will not press down over the edges otherwise.
• A final clear coat with polishing unifies the surface into the wet look of a racing car.
• The sheet does not cover the whole body, so the basic shade of the clear coat has to match, and the paint is bought separately.
