Careful, you are not buying a kit. This is a decal sheet in 1:24 scale from the maker Studio27 which gives a plastic model the appearance of the Porsche 935 Kremer K3 car in the specification for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1980. The sheet is prepared for the kit from the brand NuNu, an Asian maker of modern and historic kits of racing cars in 1:24 scale. The model, paints and clear coat are not in the package.
Behind the abbreviation K3 stands Kremer Racing, the brothers Erwin and Manfred Kremer from Cologne. They were not satisfied with what the factory sold them: they rebuilt the Porsche 935 themselves, lightened the body, reworked the aerodynamics and fitted charge air cooling of their own. The result was the most successful version of the 935, and in 1979 the Kremers won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with it with the crew of Klaus Ludwig and the brothers Don and Bill Whittington. A private team beat the factories, which is one of the best stories motorsport has to offer.
This sheet, however, is from the 1980 running, and that one turned out differently. The overall victory was taken then by the French Rondeau, and no K3 won in 1980; the best of them finished fifth overall. So you are buying a livery from the year in which the K3 was defending and did not reach a repeat, not from the winning one.
The basic rule goes: a decal is applied to gloss clear coat. On a matte one air is trapped under the film and the edges of the decal silver, the most common mistake on marked race cars of all. The wide tail and sides of the 935 have a number of transitions and edges where flat film will refuse to yield, so reach for decal softener. Once it is dry comes clear coat over the whole body and polishing, which sinks the markings into the surface. And bear in mind that the sheet does not cover the whole area, as the basic shade of the body has to match, otherwise the difference between the decal and the spray job will show at a glance.
The package contains a decal sheet only. The kit, paints, clear coat, softener and glue are not included.
