About product

Studio27 1:12 decal sheet — Honda CBR1000RR-R No. 33, Suzuka 8 Hours 2022 (for Tamiya)

This product is a decal sheet from Studio27 in 1:12 scale for the Tamiya Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP plastic kit. It is not a kit — there are no plastic or metal parts in it, only markings. The basic model has to be obtained separately. Studio27 lists the sheet in the Dress Up range, that is as a set of additional markings, logos and lettering for the racing version. There are no carbon fiber patterns in it; the maker offers those as a separately sold carbon set.

The real subject

The eight-hour race at Suzuka is the most prestigious endurance motorcycle race in the world and at the same time the biggest motorcycling event of the Japanese year. It runs for eight hours in the summer heat, two or three riders take turns on one machine, and the works teams enter even the stars of the world circuit championships. For Honda, Suzuka is a home race of honor — a win there carries weight comparable to a title. In 2022 the race was dominated by the works HRC team with a CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP carrying race number 33: the crew of Tetsuta Nagashima, Takumi Takahashi and Iker Lecuona brought the motorcycle home first.

Tips for applying the decals and clear coating

The surface must be glossy. On matte paint the edges of the decals fill with air and begin to silver — on a racing fairing covered this densely with markings that would ruin the whole effect. The fairing, the tank and the section under the seat are full of curves and edges, which is why a decal softener is practically compulsory on a motorcycle: the large sponsor areas would otherwise fail to adhere and would form a bubble. Work from the large areas toward the small lettering, let the finished markings dry thoroughly, then spray a coat of clear varnish and polish the surface to depth.

Who the sheet is for

  • Owners of the Tamiya 1:12 kit who want to build the winning machine of 2022.
  • Fans of endurance racing and of Japanese circuit sport.
  • Modelers who want a more saturated and more accurate print than the basic sheet gives.
  • Collectors of racing motorcycles in 1:12.

This is a set of decals, not a kit. The model, the paints, the glue, the decal softener and the varnishes are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. This is a separate decal sheet. The Honda CBR1000RR-R kit in 1:12 scale from Tamiya needs to be bought as well.

The most prestigious endurance motorcycle race in the world and the biggest motorcycling event of the Japanese year. Eight hours of racing, two or three riders on one machine.

The works HRC team made up of Tetsuta Nagashima, Takumi Takahashi and Iker Lecuona — and it won the race.

The tank and the fairing are far more strongly curved than the body of a car. Without a softener the large sponsor markings will not settle and will form bubbles or folds.
