Trees 18 cm, 5 pcs

A mature tree in a scene

A tall tree has two jobs in a scene. Either it is the dominant feature to which the eye keeps returning, that is a specimen by a wayside chapel, on a village green or on a field margin above a road, or on the contrary a screen: stood at the rear edge of a base it hides the point where the scene passes into nothing and the scene seems to carry on further. Five pieces in the package are enough for both, for one dominant feature and for a group that closes off the background.

Height and conversion

The model is 18 cm. In H0 scale, that is 1:87, that corresponds to a tree roughly 16 meters tall, and in 1:72 scale to approximately 13 meters. That is already a mature tree which will outgrow a two-story building and an ordinary catenary mast, so compare the height with the structures in your scene before gluing. If the trees are going into the foreground, reckon with their crowns intruding on the view of the scene from above.

Setting in place and upkeep

The taller the tree, the higher its center of gravity and the more readily it topples. Seat the trunk, then, in a hole drilled in the base to match its diameter and secure the joint with glue; let it dry thoroughly before you move the scene. Mask the foot of the trunk with grass, bushes or stones. Blow the dust off the crown or sweep it away carefully with a soft brush; wet cleaning does greenery on a scene no good.

Terms of supply

The package holds five trees 18 cm tall, that is one dominant feature and a group for the background, or a whole band of mature greenery along the edge of a base. The base, the glue, the paints, the grass and the other elements of scenery are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
