Let us point it out right at the start: you are not buying a model but parts for one. This set from Studio27 is an addition to the Toyota Supra Turbo A70 kit from Hasegawa, which you already have to have at home or buy separately. On its own it does not give a finished car — it gives one the details that simply do not fit into molded plastic: thin edges, real openings and meshes instead of a suggested engraving.

The real subject — and beware of one common mix-up

The Supra is an icon of Japanese tuning culture and a name known even to someone who has never heard of modeling: films and racing games made it famous and for a whole generation it is a dream car. The famous Supra from The Fast and the Furious, however, is the later A80 generation. This is the A70 — its direct predecessor, built from the second half of the 1980s. Anyone who wants to build the one from the film has to reach for the A80. The A70 has credentials of its own, though, and harder ones: the Turbo A version was a homologation special for Group A and on its basis the Supra raced in the Japanese touring car championship. Practical tips — honestly

Photo-etched parts are bent — without an etch bender it is hard going — and glued with cyanoacrylate glue; classic cement for plastic does not hold on metal. For a part to seat in place the original plastic detail usually has to be sanded away, which is an irreversible intervention. Work slowly and in small steps, prepare tweezers and a magnifier: the set is intended for more experienced modelers, not for a first model. Deal with the interior and everything that will be out of reach once the body is closed up first.
