This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from Hobby Boss represents the American light attack aircraft Douglas A-4 Skyhawk in the A-4B version. The model offers a well-worked cockpit, clear glazing and a finely engraved surface in a comfortable large scale. The compact but versatile machine is a rewarding subject for collectors of American carrier aircraft.
The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk was designed to be deliberately small, light and simple. The designer went for low weight and simplicity, so the machine came out considerably lighter than the original specification required, while still having decent range and a decent load of external stores. The delta wing was so small that it did not need to fold. The A-4B version was one of the earlier production variants, and the Skyhawk served with a number of operators for many decades.
Use liquid modeling cement on the plastic. Mask the canopy glazing. Assemble and paint the external stores and the landing gear bays before closing up the airframe. Naval schemes with a distinct upper and lower color come into their own when sprayed with an airbrush and lightly emphasized on the panels. It pays to watch for a clean color transition on the leading edges.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
