A replacement pilot's headrest for a model of the early Corsair F4U-1 with the framed canopy, in the configuration designated type C. Scale 1:72, for the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Vought F4U Corsair was an American carrier-borne fighter of the Second World War, recognizable at first glance by its bent wing. Early machines of the F4U-1 version carried a heavily framed canopy, for whose look the nickname bird cage took hold. It is precisely in such a cockpit that the headrest behind the pilot's seat belongs, and this set handles it in the configuration listed as type C.
It replaces the corresponding part of the Tamiya kit in 1:72 scale with a piece of more accurate shape. It is a ready-made replacement part that is fitted in place of the original one, not a whole interior. In 1:72 scale it is a very small component, and clean work matters all the more, because in the end it is clearly visible under the clear canopy.
The parts are not polystyrene, so cement for plastic has no effect on them; join them with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a small amount. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a short distance from the part and sand the remainder carefully so that the shape itself is not damaged. Before painting, wash and degrease the part, otherwise the paint cracks and flakes off. Try the fit dry before you glue the fuselage together, because once the cockpit is closed it is hard to put right.
For modelers who are building the Corsair with an open cockpit and want to lift the interior above the level of the kit. Even a less experienced builder will manage the fitting; tweezers and patience in dosing the glue are enough. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
