During its career the Spitfire reached far beyond the borders of Europe and served with air forces that modeling literature mentions only in passing. It was there that schemes arose which differ from the classic British finish not only in national insignia but often in the whole paint scheme. For a builder in 1:72 scale it is a tempting way to turn a commonly available kit into a model nobody else has in a display case — and that without laborious alterations to the airframe, because the change takes place only in the color and the markings.
In 1:72 scale the set of motifs fits into a small area, so look the sheet over before you start and plan the order. Even the surface out with a gloss clear coat. Do not carry smaller motifs by their edge with tweezers, but let them slide off the backing straight onto the moistened spot. When you have finished, store the remaining part of the sheet in an opaque envelope away from damp — decals lose their flexibility with age and with light, and they may come in useful for another build.
