An extensive short-run model of the British twin-engine fighter de Havilland DH.103 Hornet F.Mk.3 in 1:32 scale. It is a new tool from DBMK limited to 1250 pieces. The boxing contains 388 plastic parts, pre-painted Eduard photo-etch, vinyl masks and a generous load of armament - rockets, 1000 lb bombs and drop tanks. Decals (Cartograf) for three RAF schemes are enclosed, among them aircraft of No. 80 Squadron (Kai Tak 1954) and No. 41 Squadron.
The Hornet was a postwar twin-engine long-range fighter and one of the fastest piston fighters of all. It was powered by a pair of Rolls-Royce Merlin 130/131 engines with counter-rotating propellers, which canceled out the torque and gave it outstanding handling. The structure was mixed, of wood and metal, following on from the experience of the Mosquito. Hornets also saw combat service in Malaya.
As a short-run kit it calls for careful cleaning up of the parts and dry-fitting before gluing. The high part count allows a detailed build - it pays to work section by section. The pre-painted Eduard photo-etch will speed the cockpit up and the vinyl masks make spraying the glazing easier. For the RAF schemes expect an upper camouflage and a silver underside; the counter-rotating propellers call for care over the correct orientation of the blades.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
