The Special Forces of the US Army, the so-called Green Berets, in 1:32 size. Figures of military advisers in tigerstripe camouflage clothing.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Special Forces were established in 1952 and their task was to train and lead local armed men behind the opponent's lines. The green headgear that gave them their nickname was only approved as an official part of the uniform by President Kennedy in 1961. In Southeast Asia twelve-man teams then held fortified camps in the border country and led patrols of indigenous highlanders.
It was with these soldiers that things the regular infantry did not have appeared first: camouflage clothing with transverse stripes resembling a tiger's coat, a soft hat instead of a helmet, modified webbing and weapons gathered from elsewhere. The figures are therefore caught in more relaxed attitudes, often with a map, a radio set or in conversation with an indigenous guide.
The combination of an unusual camouflage pattern and an open face with no helmet makes the set a good target for a figure painter. The tiger stripes are painted dry in layers and on a large figure every stroke shows. Bamboo obstacles, sandbags or a light cross-country vehicle will complete the scene.
The set is in the 1:32 ratio. The name does not state how many pieces the package holds, nor which poses appear in it. The figures are supplied unpainted and without accessories for a scene, so the camouflage pattern itself has to be created by painting. The figures fit into a group with indigenous fighters and with soldiers of the regular army, with whom they made up mixed patrols.
