This cleverly conceived set from Airfix holds two separate injection-molded plastic kits in 1:72 scale which carry the same name, Typhoon, but are whole generations of aviation apart. The modern supersonic Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4 with the nickname Moggy stands here beside the propeller-driven Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB fighter bomber of the Second World War. The release marks the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings: in its 2024 color scheme the modern machine carries period camouflage and invasion stripes as a tribute to its 1944 namesake. In the set you will find plastic parts for both models, instructions, a painting scheme and decals.
The Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB was a British single-engine fighter bomber of the late Second World War; it made its name attacking ground targets, bridges and columns during the fighting in Normandy, powered by the mighty Napier Sabre engine. The Eurofighter Typhoon FGR.4, by contrast, is a present-day twin-engine supersonic multi-role fighter of the RAF with a delta wing and canards. The idea of one name across two eras shows vividly the road from a hard-hitting propeller-driven attack aircraft to a modern jet multi-role machine.
Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic. Laying a primer before painting is recommended, and the shades can then be sprayed with an airbrush or applied with a brush. The period camouflage and the invasion stripes stand out when the edges are masked carefully; a gloss coat under the decals makes them easier to apply and evens out the surface. Because you are building two different machines, get paints ready for the wartime as well as the modern camouflage.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
