A turned metal gun barrel of 122 mm D-25T (L/43) caliber in 1:35 scale from the Polish maker Aber. This is not a model of the tank but a detail part for a kit — an accurate replacement for the plastic barrel on the model of the Soviet IS-3 heavy tank. The barrel is made directly for the Tamiya and Trumpeter kits; the tank model itself is not included in the package and you have to have it.
The plastic barrel from the box is usually glued from two halves, so a lengthwise seam is left on it and it easily bends or is not perfectly concentric. A turned metal gun barrel, by contrast, is perfectly straight, exactly concentric and has a sharply machined, hollow muzzle. Because the barrel is the most conspicuous feature of any tank in view, this replacement lifts the final impression of the model a class higher — with no sanding of seams and no risk of a crooked gun.
Cut the plastic barrel off the kit and seat the metal one in its place. Metal is best bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), because ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on metal. Before painting, degrease the surface and apply a primer suitable for metal, so that the paint adheres well; it is painted just like the rest of the model.
This is a standalone metal part (a barrel), not a model of a tank. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
