A foliage mat from the German maker HEKI measuring twenty-eight by fourteen centimeters. The covering in the shape of small leaves holds on a carrier net and can be stretched out into an irregular texture. A red autumn is striking on a model, but at the same time the most treacherous of all the autumn tones, because in large amounts it slips toward the impression of plastic. It is therefore used deliberately, on individual trees and small groups of bushes.

How to work with the mat

Tear a piece off, stretch it out into irregular gaps and lay it onto the framework. Fix it with sparing drops of super glue or white glue. You will reach the best result by mixing: add a little yellow and brown to the red, as a single-colored red crown is what gives a model away most often. Then scatter the same color in a smaller amount on the ground under the crown as well, so that it is clear where the leaves are falling from.

For builders of autumn layouts and dioramas and for modelers who want a clear focus of color in a vignette. Red also suits garden scenes, where a colored bush by a house gives away the season sooner than anything else. It is a modeling material, not a toy.
