Three finished model trees from the German maker HEKI, thirteen centimeters tall. The white poplar differs from the common poplar in color: its leaves have white felt on the underside, so the whole tree glints silver in the wind and looks paler than the surrounding greenery even when still. That is easy to work with on a model, because one paler tree in a group immediately reveals that it is a different species, and the growth stops looking uniform.
The trees are pushed into a pre-drilled hole or glued by the foot of the trunk. A pale tree draws the eye, so do not put it in the middle of dense woodland, where it would look out of place, but at the edge of the growth or by water. Set the three at uneven spacing and slightly tilted, not in a row. Spread the flattened crown carefully with your fingers after unpacking and add taller grass under the trees.
