Four deciduous trees, each 18 cm tall. It is the size at which a tree stops being a backdrop and becomes the dominant feature of a scene: it carries the main view, gives scale to the buildings and vehicles beneath it and shades part of the area. These are finished trees from the Heki range, which are not assembled or finished off.
Eighteen centimeters corresponds in 1:87 scale to a tree roughly 15.7 meters tall, in 1:72 scale to about 13 meters and in 1:35 scale to approximately 6.3 meters. On a layout, then, this is a sturdy tree on a village green, by a station or by an isolated farm; on a diorama in a larger scale, a tree by a house with a vehicle or a figure standing under it. Leave open space around such a tree, otherwise its height is lost.
With taller trees what decides is a firm fixing. Drill a hole in the base to match the diameter of the trunk, glue the tree in and let the joint cure in the upright position, with a temporary support if need be. Do not plant four pieces of the same height in a row: arrange them irregularly, lean one of them slightly and turn the denser side of the crown toward the viewer. Cover the base of the trunk with granulate, moss or static grass and add lower greenery under the crown.
For builders of dioramas and layouts who need a few dominant broadleaves, and for gaming boards with temperate landscape. The base, the terrain, the scatter, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
