Three coniferous trees 16 to 21 cm tall, that is the tallest category among model trees. The pieces are not of equal height; each one is a different height, so they can be graded within a scene. These are finished trees from the Heki range, which are not assembled or finished off.
A tall tree is a landmark in a scene, not filler. Stand it by a house, by a wayside chapel, at the edge of a wood or in the middle of a village green and leave open space around it, otherwise its height is lost. Sixteen to twenty-one centimeters corresponds in 1:87 scale to a tree roughly 13.9 to 18.3 meters tall, in 1:72 scale to about 11.5 to 15.1 meters and in 1:35 scale to approximately 5.6 to 7.4 meters.
With pieces this tall what decides is stability. Drill a hole in a solid base to match the diameter of the trunk, glue the tree into it and let the joint cure in the upright position, ideally with a temporary support. Planting a tall tree on its spike alone in soft terrain does not pay off; it will work loose and lean when the diorama is handled. Try the position dry before gluing and turn the denser side of the crown toward the viewer. Mask the base of the trunk with scatter or static grass, so that the tree grows out of the scene instead of standing on it.
For builders of dioramas and layouts who need a few dominant trees, and for winter and Christmas scenery, where a tree is to carry the main view. The base, the terrain, decorations, lighting, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
