A box with twenty-four finished conifers of the higher class. A range of nine to fifteen centimeters means these are mature trees even in the usual layout gauge, and in the larger gauges a respectable stand. The small trees are supplied foliated.
Lower bulk trees are intended for the depth of a scene. As soon as a forest is to be seen close up, at the edge of a module or along the track in the foreground, the small pieces give away their origin. Taller trees have a denser crown, a clearer trunk and work in a scene as full trees rather than as a backdrop. Twenty-four pieces are enough for a forest edge or a smaller grove.
The box is aimed at layout builders who already have the mass of their forest finished and need a believable foreground, and at diorama modelers. The core of each small tree is an injection-molded plastic armature whose branches are bent and foliated by hand; production takes place in Germany. The trunks can be shortened as needed, so one box yields a stand with a varied range of heights. With trees in the foreground it pays to spend a moment on the trunk as well: a darker wash on the bark and drybrushing on the edges add the depth a finished small tree does not have on its own.
