A box with thirty small conifers that the manufacturer intends for H0 and TT gauges. The small trees are finished and foliated, so you only need to seat them in the terrain. Their low stature destines them for the role of young growth and for filling areas where taller trees would hide the action.
Not every spot on a layout can take a mature tree. Above a railroad cutting, by a grade crossing, on an embankment and around a station building you need greenery that hides nothing. That is exactly where this size belongs. The second common use is the depth of a scene: smaller trees in the background visually extend the perspective, because the eye reads them as distant.
It suits layout builders in the usual gauges as well as modelers of smaller dioramas. The core of each small tree is an injection-molded plastic armature whose branches are bent and foliated by hand; production takes place in Germany. Thirty pieces will cover a smaller stand or fill out an area where trees already stand and the gaps along the margins need filling. While working, hold the small tree by the trunk, not by the crown; a grip on the foliage leaves a pale patch that is then hard to repair. The smaller pieces in the box also serve as self-seeding in a ditch or as greenery between gardens.
