A single tall conifer from a line of specimen trees aimed at the large layout gauges. Thirty centimeters of height means a tree that suits even places where ordinary small trees look like bushes. It is supplied finished and foliated.
In gauge 0 or on a garden railroad everything is bigger, so trees that look massive in the usual gauge suddenly shrink the whole subject. That is why specimen trees of this height exist: so that a tree is in the right proportion to a locomotive and to a house. Another advantage is that such a tree can be used on its own as the main element of a smaller scene.
It is aimed at builders of large layouts, garden railroads and sizeable dioramas. The maker is a German company with its own production; the small trees are built from an injection-molded plastic armature with hand-bent branches, so they differ from piece to piece. With a tree this large it pays to work up the trunk with a darker wash and drybrushing, because close up it is the bark that shows most. The undergrowth at the foot of the trunk deserves the same attention, that is, bushes, ferns and leaf litter, because it is this transition to the ground that gives away unfinished work fastest.
