Natural track ballast of basalt with a grain size of 0.5 to 1 millimeter, 500 gram box, for H0 gauge. Dark crushed stone for the ballast bed.
Responsibility details are not available.
Scatter ballast of crushed basalt, that is, in a darker gray-black shade. A grain size of nought point five to one millimeter matches H0 gauge and the box weighs half a kilogram. The material is poured onto the bed under the track and fixed with thinned glue.
The choice of stone is not only a matter of taste. Real railroads use different rocks depending on what is available nearby, and the color of the bed therefore says where the line is. Basalt is dark and on a model it looks sterner; it suits a newer line and industrial country. Lighter granite or porphyry, by contrast, suit older lines and a rural setting. The two shades can also be mixed, and the transition between them imitates a section under repair.
For layout builders finishing off the permanent way and for modelers of railroad dioramas. The manufacturer is a German company specializing in scenery accessories, and production takes place in Germany. Safety note: a loose natural material does not belong in the hands of children under three because of the risk of inhalation. Test the shade on a scrap beforehand; once glue is flooded on, stone usually darkens and the result differs from the dry sample.
