Dark cork bed for N gauge, 9.8 meters

A large box of cork strips in a dark finish for N gauge. A total length of nine point eight meters will cover even a more extensive layout. The strips are assembled under the track into a bed with beveled slopes onto which the ballast is poured.

Small gauge, long line

In N gauge considerably more line fits into the same area than in H0, so the consumption of bed material rises. A large box matches that and at the same time solves one practical problem: material from a single delivery has the same shade and thickness, whereas cork bought later may differ slightly, and at the join that shows.

How to lay the strips

• Draw the route on the baseboard and glue the strips along the line
• Glue with PVA glue and weigh them down until dry
• On curves, nick the strip slightly on the outside
• Sand the joints flat
• At turnouts, make up the shape from a cork sheet

In a small gauge it pays to go over the cork with sandpaper once it is glued down, because even slight unevenness shows in running at this ratio.
