Acrylic Paint Auburn

What it is

An acrylic paint from Heki in an auburn shade, that is a chestnut brown with a red cast. It is one shade in a bottle, not a set. The volume of the package and the recommended thinner are stated by the manufacturer; the paint is applied with a brush and can be sprayed once thinned.

Where the color is used

Red-brown tones are among the hardest-working in a modeling scene. They come into their own on wood, that is on beams, planks, fences and railroad ties, on brick masonry and on fired roof tiles, on plowed soil and on a muddy track, and on corrosion, where they form the base layer under finer rust shades. They also serve well in mixtures: adding brown or black turns the shade into dark stained wood, adding white into faded planks, and adding ocher into warm earth.

How to work with the paint

• Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, the pigment settles at the bottom when it stands.
• Apply thin coats and let each one dry; one heavy coat floods the texture of the surface.
• On a wood texture a thinned coat looks good, running into the grooves and leaving the raised areas lighter.
• Never lay the shade over the whole surface at the same strength; it is the irregularity that makes it convincing on a model.
• Wash the brush right after work, dried acrylic will not come out of the bristles.
• Close the bottle carefully, an open container dries the paint out.
