About product

MAFFS 1:144 - a printed firefighting outfit for the Hercules

The set for 1:144 scale represents the MAFFS modular airborne firefighting system, that is an outfit of pressure tanks with retardant and a discharge pipe, which is loaded into the fuselage of the four-engine transport aircraft. The package contains the parts of the system only; the model of the aircraft itself you need to have separately. The parts are printed by 3D technology, so even in this small scale they hold a readable shape for the tanks, the frames and the pipework.

The real subject

The charm of MAFFS is that it turns an ordinary transport machine into a firefighting special only for the duration of its deployment. The outfit is loaded into an aircraft before the season and taken out again after it, so the aircraft does not lose its original role. It is used where, during extensive wildfires, the capacity of specialized firefighting aircraft has to be increased quickly.

Building and painting tips

In 1:144 scale the parts are really small. Work with tweezers over a surface with a raised edge, so that nothing drops out of sight, and cut directly under a light. First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water and sand the remains of the supports with the finest paper. Glue with super glue applied with the point of a pin - a drop from the tube would flood the joint. Apply the paint very thinly, ideally with an airbrush, because a heavy layer would flood the detail in this scale. Keep the wash and the dry brush restrained, otherwise the model will look artificial.

Who the set is for

  • collectors of models in the small 1:144 scale who want an untypical variant of the Hercules
  • those interested in firefighting and rescue aircraft
  • builders of airfield dioramas, where an open rear with a load comes in useful
  • modelers with experience of small printed parts

The set contains supplementary parts only, not a kit of the aircraft. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and other accessories are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. These are the parts of the firefighting system only. Obtain a kit of the transport aircraft in 1:144 scale separately.

Small they are, which is why we recommend tweezers, good light and working over a surface with a raised edge. The set is more suitable for modelers who have already worked in a small scale.

Thinly and preferably with an airbrush. A heavy layer of paint would flood both the engraving and the shape of the pipework in this scale; use the wash and the dry brush with restraint only.

Yes, we recommend it. Lukewarm soapy water removes the residue from manufacture, on which the paint would hold badly.
