Responsibility details are not available.
A set of unpainted command figures of American infantry of the War of Independence in 28 millimeter size. The package contains twenty-eight pieces. Command sets add to ordinary infantry units the figures they lack: officers, standard bearers and drummers. It is these that give a rank of figures shape and purpose, because they turn an anonymous crowd into a unit with a command. The figures are in hard polystyrene plastic on sprues.
An eighteenth-century battalion was directed in action by voice, by the drum and by the standard. Smoke from the firing blocked the view within minutes, so the sound of the drum and the position of the standard were often the only guide to where the unit was to move. The standard bearer therefore stood at the front, and losing him was a serious problem for the battalion. On the table and on a diorama the command group is the visual center of the whole unit.
Wash the figures in lukewarm soapy water to get rid of any residue from the mold. Separate them from the sprue with nippers at a distance and trim the rest with a knife. Apply a primer. Command figures deserve more work than the rank and file because they are at the front: it is worth grading the shadows and highlights on them and finishing the small things such as sashes and lace.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
