1:72 Napoleonic British Command

HäT 1:72 - British command group of the Napoleonic Wars

A set of unpainted command figures of the British army of the Napoleonic Wars in 1:72 scale. It adds to the line infantry the figures it lacks: officers, standard bearers and drummers. It is these that give a unit its shape, because they turn an anonymous rank into a body with a command. The figures are in soft plastic, on which ordinary polystyrene cement and paint do not hold without preparation.

The real subject

British infantry of the Napoleonic Wars fought in a deployed two-deep line, while most of its opponents attacked in deep columns. The line allowed every man to fire at once, and it was precisely this tactic that decided a number of engagements on the Iberian Peninsula and at Waterloo. The command group stood behind the center of the battalion and its standards were the visual guide for the whole unit in the smoke.

Building and painting tips

First wash the figures in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry out completely. Then apply a primer intended for soft plastics. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Give the command figures more work than the rank and file, as they are at the front: grade the shadows and highlights on them and finish the small things such as sashes and lace.
