What the set contains

Hands in various positions for figures of German soldiers of the Second World War period, in 1:16 scale. The parts are resin and are intended to replace the hands of the original figure, or to replace hands that were damaged or lost during the build.

Why hands get replaced

In 1:16 scale a standing figure measures around eleven centimeters and the hand on it is so large that the viewer notices every inaccuracy. Replacing a hand is at the same time the simplest way to change the reading of a figure: a different position of the palm and fingers turns a soldier who is merely standing into a soldier who is pointing at something, holding equipment or leaning on a rifle butt.

Building and painting tips

Separate the original hand with a cut at the wrist, level the surface and strengthen the joint with a pin of thin wire. Fit the new part dry first and turn it so that the thumb points correctly in relation to the body. Cut the surplus material away a little from the part and sand the rest down. Wash and degrease the resin before gluing and glue with cyanoacrylate glue, because cement for plastic has no effect on it. Fill the gap at the wrist and sand it down before painting, otherwise it will still show once the primer is sprayed on. Apply the skin shade in layers, darken the hollows between the fingers with a glaze and lighten the knuckles and the back of the hand. Paint the hands in the same session as the face, so that the shade matches.
