The collector bust of the commander of the German Afrikakorps from the Italian brand Royal Model is a casting intended for painting, not a kit of hardware. It captures one of the best-known German commanders of the Second World War from the chest up, in 1:16 scale.
He made his name as early as the First World War in the mountain units on the Italian front. Fame, however, came to him in North Africa, where from 1941 he commanded the German Afrikakorps and where he earned the byname the Desert Fox. He pressed for fast flanking moves with small forces and held the front against superior numbers for a long time, until the balance broke at El Alamein. He was then given charge of the defense of the French coast against a landing. After the July 1944 attempt on Hitler's life he was accused of complicity and forced to end his own life.
The large format forgives little and the face is the whole job. The best results come from oil paints layered over an acrylic undercoat, because they can be blended for a long time and the transitions on the cheeks therefore stay soft. Leave the cap and the collar darker than the skin so that the head comes forward. Free the casting of grease beforehand and seat it on a base that does not disturb it in color. Paint the eyes only once the skin is finished.
