An injection-molded plastic kit of the American M113A1 armored personnel carrier in the large 1:16 scale from the manufacturer Andy's Hobby Headquarters. The package is designed as a 2 in 1 release - you can build the classic M113A1 carrier or the ACAV combat version with its open gunner's position and armor shields. The large scale allows exceptionally rich detail: photo-etched and clear parts, an elaborate fighting and driver's compartment, movable running gear, assembled tracks and a figure are all included.
The M113 was a light tracked armored personnel carrier with aluminum armor, deployed in large numbers by the US Army from the 1960s and notably during the Vietnam War. The ACAV version (Armored Cavalry Assault Vehicle) was given a protective shield around the main 12.7 mm heavy machine gun and a pair of side M60 machine guns with shields of their own for fighting from a moving vehicle. Thanks to its reliability and versatility the M113 became one of the most widespread carriers of its day.
With vehicles it pays to assemble and paint the running gear and the interior before you close the hull up. Use liquid modeling cement on the plastic parts and bond the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a primer before painting; an airbrush handles the final coat best. Panel highlighting will bring the olive finish to life, and mud and dust effects with washes and pigments will give the vehicle realistic weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
