Three-dimensional decals for the cockpits of the Mirage 2000D and 2000N

3D decals combine two things that used to be done separately: the color print and the raised shape. The carrier sheet holds finished instrument panels, side consoles and other elements with a depth of their own, so once applied the cockpit interior really does look richly detailed. In 1:32 scale the difference shows particularly clearly, because with the canopy open you can see inside. The shapes are based on the cockpits of the Kitty Hawk and Zimi Models kits.

Two seats, two sets

The Mirage 2000N came about as a two-seat strike machine for carrying the French nuclear missile and entered service at the end of the 1980s. The 2000D derived from it received equipment for conventional precision munitions and became the workhorse of the French Air Force in operations over the Balkans, Afghanistan and in the Sahel. The basis of both remained the delta wing of the Mirage 2000, supplemented by a strengthened structure for low-level flight and by terrain-following equipment. Both versions have a rear cockpit for the weapon systems officer with a different layout from the pilot's front station, which makes the set an extensive whole.

Before you start applying them

• Spray the cockpit parts with the base shade beforehand; the 3D print is laid onto a finished base.
• Lay the elements on dry and flat, as bending them over an edge destroys the raised relief.
• Application differs with these elements from classic waterslide decals, so follow the manufacturer's instructions.
• Apply the final matte overcoat very thinly, as a heavy layer will suppress the three-dimensional effect.
