About product

LACI 1:200 Boeing 747-400 - high-lift flaps

A resin accessory set in 1:200 scale from LACI. It makes it possible to build a model of the Boeing 747-400 with the high-lift devices extended, that is in the shape it has on final approach. It is not a kit of an airplane - the parts replace the corresponding sections of the wing of a plastic model you already have under way.

What the set adds to the model

The Boeing 747-400 is a four-engine wide-body aircraft with the characteristic humped forward fuselage and with the wing capped by tall winglets. A wing of such an area needs extensive high-lift devices for landing, and in the extended state its appearance changes markedly: the depth of the section grows and slots open up between the individual parts of the flaps. Most kits offer a smooth wing for cruising flight, so a model on approach cannot be built out of the box. In 1:200 scale the thicknesses of the trailing edges moreover correspond to tenths of a millimeter, which only a fine resin casting can manage.

Usage tips

  • Wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent to free them of mold release agent, because otherwise paint will not hold on them.
  • Work over a tray and with pointed tweezers, because the parts are very tiny in this scale.
  • Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and do not break them; sand wet and with breathing protection.
  • Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin, so that it does not run into the slots between the flaps.
  • Set the extension symmetrically on both wing halves; on a big aircraft any asymmetry shows immediately.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of airliners in 1:200 scale
  • Collectors who want a big aircraft in an economical display format
  • More experienced builders, because it means tiny resin parts and cutting into the wing

This is an accessory to a kit, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. It is a resin accessory to a Boeing 747-400 kit in 1:200 scale. The model itself, paints and glue are not in the package.

The wing will have the high-lift devices extended with slots instead of the smooth cruise configuration, so the model matches an aircraft on approach.

Yes. The corresponding parts of the wing are cut away and replaced by the resin parts. Have a saw, sandpaper and filler ready.

No. The castings are shaped to one particular kit, so check whose model you are building before you buy.
