Injection-molded plastic kit of the British Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIC fighter in the tropical version (Trop), from Trumpeter. The key feature of this version is the large Vokes dust filter fitted under the nose, which protected the engine when operating in dusty conditions. The armament is four 20 mm cannons, as on the standard Mk.IIC. Mind a possible mix-up with the sister kit of the Hurricane Mk.IIC (the non-tropical version without the filter); this model differs from it precisely in that filter under the nose. The large 1:24 scale means a span of over half a meter and rich detail.
Together with the Spitfire, the Hurricane was the main British fighter of the Battle of Britain. The tropical Mk.IIC version received the large Vokes filter under the nose, which caught the sand and dust drawn into the engine, a necessity for operations over the Mediterranean, in North Africa and in Asia. Apart from the different appearance of the nose the machine kept the heavy armament of four 20 mm cannons and proved itself both as a fighter and in attacks on ground targets in desert and tropical conditions.
Finish and paint the cockpit before you close the fuselage, because in the large 1:24 scale it is very much on show. Use masking templates on the canopy glazing for sharp frames. Give attention to seating the dust filter under the nose so that it lines up cleanly. Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement, apply primer and spray with an airbrush; desert schemes combine sand and brown shades with a light underside and an airbrush shows to advantage here. On the large areas, fine shading of the panels and dust weathering with pigments work well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
