About product

Supermarine Spitfire Mk.VIII 1:24 — a Red Fox Studio 3D instrument panel

This is an accessory for the plastic model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.VIII fighter in 1:24 scale from the Hungarian manufacturer Red Fox Studio. It is not an airplane kit but a 3D printed color instrument panel (and the related details) on a decal carrier that replaces or supplements the plastic panel from the box and gives the cockpit realistic depth and legible dials.

The real subject

The Spitfire Mk.VIII was a high-performance fighter of the Royal Air Force powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin 60-series V12 engine with a two-stage supercharger. It had a retractable tailwheel and improved aerodynamics; it served above all in the Mediterranean, in South-East Asia and in the Pacific.

Usage tips

The part has a raised, uneven surface with the relief of the instruments. Cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) is best for gluing it, though PVA glues can be used as well. The detail will take a light darkening with oil or acrylic paint; the part can be bent slightly or sanded for an exact fit in the cockpit.

Who it is for

  • Builders of the Spitfire model in 1:24 scale who want a first-rate cockpit
  • Modelers who prefer color 3D panels to photo-etch or decals
  • Collectors looking for a quick increase in detail without extensive work

This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
