About product

de Havilland Mosquito FB Mk.VI 1:32 - Tamiya

An injection-molded plastic model of the British fighter-bomber de Havilland Mosquito FB Mk.VI in the large 1:32 scale from Tamiya. It is a sizeable, superbly detailed kit from a newer mold. The package offers a richly rendered cockpit, detailed Rolls-Royce Merlin engines with the supercharger represented and faithfully worked out engine mounts and landing gear legs. The bomb bay can be built open or closed with a pair of 500 lb bombs and 20 mm cannon, the exhausts come in shrouded and in open form and various shapes of propeller blades are on offer.

The real subject

The de Havilland Mosquito was a British twin-engined multirole aircraft of the Second World War with an unusual, largely wooden structure, which earned it the nickname Wooden Wonder. It was powered by a pair of Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engines and the machine ranked among the fastest of its day. The FB Mk.VI version was the fighter-bomber variant carrying cannon, machine guns, bombs and rockets, and it became famous for its pinpoint strikes on ground targets. The Mosquito also served as a night fighter and as a reconnaissance and fast bomber aircraft.

Building and painting tips

The large 1:32 scale offers room for the maximum of detail, but it makes demands on care; glue the joints with a thin modeling cement and sand them down thoroughly, because imperfections show more here. It pays to finish and paint the engines and the cockpit before you close them up. Apply a good primer before painting; spray the upper camouflage and the undersurfaces with an airbrush. An open bomb bay and exposed engines offer welcome opportunities for bringing out the detail with a wash and fine pigments.

Who the model is for

  • enthusiasts of the RAF and of multirole aircraft of the Second World War
  • those interested in the large 1:32 scale with room for the maximum of detail
  • modelers who will appreciate exposed engines, a cockpit and an optional bomb bay
  • more experienced builders practiced in the airbrush and in weathering techniques

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
