These Reskit figures capture the Thunderchief crew at the access ladder to the cockpit. The name of the item gives two pieces and a scale of 1:32. The scene gives a static model a story and at the same time shows the proportion between a man and the massive airframe.
Boarding by ladder is among the most rewarding subjects, because the vertical element cuts through the otherwise low silhouette of the model and naturally leads the eye to the cockpit. Figures caught in movement moreover hold a composition together better than figures simply stood on a board side by side. A small scene like that stays interesting even after years in a display case.
The Thunderchief was a massive fighter-bomber with a long fuselage and a swept wing. The cockpit sits high above the ground, so boarding without an aid was out of the question. The two-seat F and G versions had their seats one behind the other and were boarded by a pair of airmen, which matches the number of figures in the name.
Seat the hands and feet of the figures dry first and only then reach for the glue. The impression of worn metal is then supported by a dark wash and fine chipping applied with the tip of a brush.
