This plastic kit from Trumpeter represents the night fighter version of the American carrier fighter Grumman F6F-5N Hellcat in the large 1:32 scale. The set is made in injection-molded plastic, contains clear parts for the cockpit and a separate clear engine cowling and offers a richly rendered surface; decals for period markings are enclosed. The model is meant to be glued and painted.
The F6F Hellcat was one of the most successful carrier fighters of the US Navy in the Second World War. The night version F6F-5N carried a radar under a fairing on the right wing for finding targets in the dark, and cannons replaced part of the machine gun armament. It was used from 1943 in the Pacific area.
In the large scale the cockpit and the radial engine come into their own and deserve careful highlighting. Use liquid cement on the plastic, apply a primer and lay the dark blue naval camouflage on with an airbrush. Bring out the panel lines with a wash and paint the radar pod separately.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
