Quickboost is a brand of the Czech firm Aires focused on simple replacement parts that are installed by a plain exchange for the plastic piece from the kit, with no assembly and no photo-etched parts. As the name states, the part matches the rendering from the Fieseler plant in Kassel.
The Fw 190 D-9 was built in several plants in parallel, and the individual production lines differed in details. Most conspicuously on the engine cowling, where the division of the panels, the shape of the covers and the placement of the fasteners all varied. For a modeler that means one universal plastic part will never fit every machine: if you are building a particular aircraft from a photograph or from the markings on a decal sheet, the cowling is one of the few places where the production origin can really be documented. The manufacturer also makes other D-9 cowling variants matching other plants, so the choice is worth making deliberately.
Wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water and cut the casting block off with a saw. In 1:32 scale the part is larger and easier to hold, but all the more reason to level the mating surfaces carefully so that the cowling meets the fuselage with no step. Dry-fit the part, and level any gaps by sanding rather than with filler. It is bonded with super glue; the thicker variant gives a few seconds to adjust the position. Apply a primer before painting, which will at the same time reveal the hairline scratches left by sanding. In a larger scale a fine breaking up of the surface with shades and a discreet emphasis of the panel joints works well, because the cowling forms one large continuous area.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as a resin casting for modifying a model. Paints, glue and the base kit are not included in the package.
