About product

Gloster Gladiator Mk.II - 3D interior decals, 1:32 scale (Kelik)

A set of color raised decals from the manufacturer Kelik for fitting out the cockpit of a model of the British fighter biplane Gloster Gladiator Mk.II in 1:32 scale. It is not a kit of the aircraft, nor a resin part to be glued on: these are decals that are applied to the parts from the box and give them a three-dimensional structure and finished colors. The printed layer has height, so the dials, the switches, the lettering and the belts look three-dimensional even without painting. In 1:32 scale in particular, the open cockpit of a biplane is clearly visible, so work on the interior pays off. The set is cut for one particular kit in that scale, so compare the shape of the interior parts with your model before buying. The set is intended for the ICM kit.

The real subject

The Gloster Gladiator was the last British fighter biplane introduced into front-line service. It had an enclosable cockpit, fixed landing gear and a radial engine, and at the time it came about it was among the faster machines of its category, even though all-metal monoplanes soon surpassed it. The Mk.II version differed from the first series in its engine and in some service modifications. The machine got into the armament of air forces outside the British one as well, so it is a rewarding subject for modelers looking for less usual color schemes.

Building and painting tips

First spray the surface under the decals with primer and coat it with gloss varnish: on a smooth glossy area the decal settles without silvering. Soak the decal briefly in lukewarm water, slide it off the paper and settle it with a soft brush; the raised layer is thicker than that of an ordinary decal, so go carefully with aggressive softeners and rather try them on the edge of the sheet. Draw the surplus water off with a paper tissue and let it dry through thoroughly before you fit the part into the fuselage. All you may want to add are subtle shadows with a dark wash, as the main coloring is already printed.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the Gladiator model in 1:32 scale
  • Modelers who do not feel like painting small instruments and belts by hand
  • Those who want an elaborate interior without working with resin
  • Anyone interested in raising the level of a biplane's open cockpit quickly

The set is supplied as a sheet of decals. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Like an ordinary decal: soak it briefly in lukewarm water, slide it off the paper and settle it on a smooth glossy surface. The raised layer is thicker, so work with it carefully.

The main coloring is printed. At most it is worth adding a subtle dark wash and painting the cockpit surface onto which the decals are settled.

No. It is an interior accessory for a Gladiator model, which you have to obtain separately.

The set is cut for one particular kit in that scale. Compare the shape of the interior parts with your model before buying.
