The OH-6 is a single-engine helicopter with turboshaft power that differs from the machines of its day above all in its shape: a compact egg-shaped fuselage with a large glazed front section, a slender tail section and a multi-blade main rotor of small diameter. The design was led by the aim of the smallest possible dimensions and weight while keeping decent flying qualities, thanks to which the machine excelled in agility. The type also became the basis for later civil and export variants, which differ from one another in details of the tail, the rotor and the glazing, so with a model it is always worth comparing the particular version with source material.
The large share of glazing means that the interior of the cabin will be clearly visible. Finish and paint the seats, the floor, the controls and the instrument panel before you close the fuselage up. Mask the clear parts and glue them with a cement intended for transparent plastics, so that they do not fog. The egg-shaped fuselage makes one large rounded surface, so fill and sand the joints on it carefully, because a straight longitudinal seam on a round surface catches the eye at once. Attach the rotor blades only after varnishing and check whether they sit in the same plane. The color schemes tend to be single-color and dark, so a light modulation of the shade and only very fine accenting of the panel lines pay off. Unify the assembly at the end with a matte or satin varnish.
