About product

Resin Mark 82 bombs with the Mk.15 retarder unit in 1:32 scale

The set holds four bombs and it is an accessory for hanging under pylons, not a model of an aircraft. On a model it replaces the armament from the box, that is bombs molded from two halves, which have a parting seam around the circumference, blunt edges on the retarding fins and often missing small details on the suspension lugs. The resin body is cast in one piece, so sanding the seam on a cylindrical surface, where it is hardest to do, falls away.

The real subject

The Mark 82 is an American low-drag aerial bomb from the Mk 80 series, in the weight class of around 500 pounds. It is used in many combinations with various tail units and a whole range of aircraft types carry it. The Mk.15 Snakeye retarder unit has folding plates, which open out after release and slow the bomb down. That allows release from a low altitude without the aircraft flying into the blast area of its own munitions.

What awaits you during assembly

First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that they are rid of remains of the release agent, otherwise primer will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw, not with cutters, as resin cracks. Do the sanding wet and with protection for your airways. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, as ordinary cement for plastic does not take on resin. It is worth attaching the bomb to the pylon with a steel pin made of wire in a drilled hole, because resin is heavier than plastic and the joint alone is easily snapped off. Lay a primer on before painting.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of modern combat aircraft in a large scale.
  • Modelers who want credible underwing armament instead of the parts from the box.
  • More experienced builders used to working with resin.

Reskit makes several similar Mark 82 sets, which differ in the form of the tail unit and in the surface finish of the bomb. Choose, therefore, by the exact designation of the set and by the scale.

The set is an accessory for a model, not a kit in its own right. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

FAQ

The name of the set gives four pieces.

With cyanoacrylate glue. Cement for plastic does not bite into resin and the joint does not hold.

After release they open out and slow the bomb down, so that the aircraft has time to leave the blast area even when releasing from a low altitude.

There are several sets with Mark 82 bombs and the exact designation tells them apart, mainly the form of the tail unit and the scale. Go by the name of the set.
