A three-dimensional decal is a halfway stage between an ordinary decal and a photo-etched part: it carries a color print of the instruments as well as a raised relief, so that once applied the instrument panel looks fully fitted out and yet you do not have to assemble and glue anything. This set covers the interior of the reconnaissance version of the RF-5E and, according to its name, is cut for the kits from the firms Kitty Hawk and Zimi Models. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory for a model you have already bought.
The RF-5E is the reconnaissance version of the light supersonic fighter F-5E. In place of the cannon in the nose it carries a camera section with interchangeable sensor blocks, so the fit could be adapted to the task. The aircraft stayed small, undemanding to operate and fast, which made it a suitable means of tactical reconnaissance. The cockpit matches its era: classic round instruments and a row of switches on the side panels.
Follow the enclosed instructions, because the application procedure for three-dimensional decals differs from ordinary ones. Paint the base beforehand and let it dry thoroughly. Do not use softeners and setting solutions on the decal unless the instructions expressly recommend it, as they could damage the relief. Fit the parts with fine-tipped tweezers and dry-fit them before gluing so that they sit exactly. Leave the finished interior matte, otherwise light will reflect in it under the canopy.
The set is supplied as an accessory for a model. The glue, the paints and the kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
