A plastic kit of the Porsche 917/10 in 1:32 scale from Revell - the open racing special that dominated the American Can-Am series in the 1970s.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit captures the open racing car Porsche 917/10 as a scale model in 1:32. Revell of Germany issues it from a classic mold whose roots reach back to the 1970s, so it is a piece with a history of its own. The box holds injected plastic parts, a decal sheet and instructions with a color layout.
The 917 type was made famous by victories at Le Mans, but its open version aimed somewhere quite different. The designers from Zuffenhausen fitted it with a turbocharged twelve-cylinder engine and sent it across the ocean to the Can-Am series, where big-displacement American eight-cylinder engines had ruled until then. The 1972 season ended with the title for the Penske stable and the driver George Follmer, and a year later the team built an even sharper successor. In Europe the same cars met on the circuits of the Interserie, and their acceleration was among the wildest that circuit racing of the day offered.
The body stands or falls with a glossy finish: smooth the base with fine abrasive paper, spray thin coats and let them dry out properly. Decals hold best on a glossy surface; once dry, go over them with a clear coat in the chosen degree of gloss. Mask the glazing before you set about the paint of the body, and cut the chromed parts off only just before fitting them.
The parts are unpainted and unassembled; the box does not hold paints or glue.
