A pair of figures depicting members of a modern carrier deck crew who handle refueling. The set carries the designation scene 1 and is intended to fill out a model of an aircraft or a whole deck setting.
The flight deck crew are told apart by the colors of their outer jerseys, so that even in the noise and the jet blast it is clear at a glance who has which task. Purple belongs to the crews who look after the fuel, and in everyday speech they are therefore nicknamed Grapes. Their work goes on between parked machines, with hoses and filling nozzles, and always in coordination with the other groups. It is exactly this routine that gives a deck scene the life a model of an aircraft on its own never has.
The purple jersey is the dominant area, so take care over an even coat and handle the shadow with a glaze rather than black. The coveralls under the jersey tend to be lighter and soiled by work. The helmet, the ear defenders and the safety goggles are small things, but it is precisely they that bring a figure to life. Tune the shades of the deck and the figures together, so that the setting holds as one.
