The follow-on photo-etched set in 1:35 for the self-propelled Karl mortar of 60 cm caliber focuses on the running gear and the lower areas of the machine.
Responsibility details are not available.
This follow-on set from the brand Royal Model completes the previous part and concentrates on the lower areas of the German siege mortar of 60 cm caliber: the running gear, the covers and the small fittings. You have to have the plastic model of your own.
The tracked chassis with a row of road wheels on each side had a single task: to hold the weapon in place and transfer the recoil into the ground. Before firing, the whole structure was lowered to the ground and after the shot it was raised again. The shells weighed roughly two tons and were carried by special vehicles fitted with a crane. Some of the examples were later given a narrower barrel of 54 cm caliber, which reached farther. The combat debut came at Brest on the Bug in 1941. The machine moved to a firing position only over short distances and its speed barely exceeded walking pace. The individual examples also differed from one another, because the manufacturer kept modifying them.
Finish and paint the underside before you seat the upper structure on the model; later you will not get to it. Apply pigments and earthy washes on a matte surface, as they adhere better. Leave the tracks a little looser, so that they settle onto the terrain naturally.
The set is intended to complete a model already bought.
