The B1 Centauro is an Italian wheeled armored vehicle with eight driven wheels and a 105 mm gun in a turning turret. It came about as fast tank-destroyer and reconnaissance equipment: on the road it moves markedly further and faster than a tracked vehicle, uses less fuel and damages the road surface less, while carrying firepower comparable to a tank gun. It entered service at the beginning of the 1990s and proved itself above all in tasks where range, readiness and the ability to support one's own units quickly are valued.
The model captures the early state of the vehicle, that is, its form before the later modifications. Later examples received add-on armor sets and further accessories that filled out the silhouette; the early configuration looks cleaner beside them and the shape of the hull and the turret comes out better on it. When building it, therefore, it pays to compare the real vehicle against photographs from the period you want to capture.
With an eight-wheeled chassis, watch that all the wheels sit down on the surface; assemble the suspension on a flat surface and stand the model on glass before it dries. The flattening of the tires should point toward the ground. Clean the excess material off the parts before gluing and sand the mating surfaces. Wash and degrease the model before painting and apply the base shade in thin coats. Keep the weathering restrained: a dark wash into the hatches and the grilles, dust on the fenders and the lower hull, wear on the steps and the grab handles.
