About product

British Mk III Turtle helmet – the detail version (1:35, Firma49)

A resin set from the Czech manufacturer Firma49 in the diorama scale of 1:35, made as the detail variant of the British Mk III helmet nicknamed the Turtle. Compared with the basic version it offers a more worked-out surface and finer details. It is not a kit but an accessory in its own right for dressing figures and scenes. Working with resin assumes experience.

The real subject

The British Army introduced the Mk III helmet from the end of 1943. Its deeper shape protected the neck and the back of the head better than the earlier Mk II. It was first worn in larger numbers by British and Canadian soldiers during the Normandy landings in 1944 and was used until the end of the war. It gained the nickname Turtle for its resemblance to a turtle shell.

Usage and painting tips

Wash the castings free of mold release agent, cut off the casting blocks and clean them up (with respiratory protection). Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). After the primer, paint them in flat khaki to olive green; the finer detail of this version comes out once a wash and a light dry brush have been applied.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of figures of British and Canadian soldiers in 1:35
  • Modelers who want the finest possible rendition of the helmet
  • More experienced modelers used to working with resin
  • Builders of dioramas of the Second World War

The accessory is supplied as unpainted resin castings. Glue, paints and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
