Chains ending in balls are the most conspicuous feature of the Israeli Merkava. The 1:35 Chains and balls Merkava MK3 set carries them over onto the model.

This accessory from the brand Royal Model aims at a single, immediately recognizable feature of the Israeli Merkava Mk3 main battle tank: the curtain of chains with metal balls under the rear of the turret. An element like this cannot be captured faithfully in injection-molded plastic, because it is a freely hanging chain that sags irregularly.
The space between the rear of the turret and the roof of the hull is a weak point on every tank. On the Merkava, Israeli designers covered it with a curtain of chains: a shaped-charge warhead strikes it ahead of the armor, detonates at a standoff and its jet disperses before it reaches the joint. The Merkava itself was created out of Israeli experience from the fighting of the 1970s, which is why it has the engine at the front, the crew at the back and a door in the rear. The Mk3 version appeared at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s with a 120 mm gun.
The curtain only looks right when it hangs naturally: first set the sag of every loop on the bench and only then fix it in place. A dark metal shade with a light graphite rub works well, because the chains tended to be polished smooth and free of any sand. Leave the rest of the vehicle in a desert finish with dry dust in the recesses.
The accessory comes without a finish; get the adhesive for fixing it in place separately.
