Replacement photo-etched fenders in 1:35 for the Panzer IV medium tank replace plastic moldings with thin metal, which can be bent and torn faithfully.
Responsibility details are not available.
These replacement photo-etched fenders from Royal Model stand in for the plastic components of a model of the German Panzer IV medium tank. Metal holds its shape even after bending, so dented and torn-off sheet metal can be imitated faithfully, as it looked on real vehicles.
The fenders were among the most vulnerable parts of the Panzer IV. They were of thin sheet, the front pieces were also hinged, and in the field they regularly bent, tore or disappeared altogether. Period photographs show machines with a single fender, with a bent rim and with none at all. The rear pieces carried the lights and reflectors, so after their loss a bare bracket was left on the hull; in photographs from the end of the war a complete set is rather the exception. It is precisely this untidiness that makes a model believable, but it cannot be imitated in thick plastic.
Suggest a bend with the pressure of a blunt tool on a soft surface, on a piece of rubber for instance. Make the tears with the point of a scalpel and sand the edges lightly. Go over the edges with a graphite pencil after bending; the metal will gain a scraped sheen from it. If you remove part of a fender, do not forget to add the brackets that stayed hanging on the hull.
The plastic base is not enclosed.
