A kit of the German RSO tracked tractor with an anti-aircraft quadruple mount of 2 cm caliber on the cargo bed, 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The RSO, by its full name Raupenschlepper Ost, was a German tracked tractor designed directly for the Eastern Front. Wheeled vehicles got stuck there in the mud in autumn and spring, whereas a tracked chassis with low ground pressure got through. The vehicle had a plain box cab and an open cargo bed and was used mainly to tow guns and to carry supplies. Besides that it became the chassis for several combat conversions. One of them was the fitting of an anti-aircraft quadruple mount of 2 cm caliber behind the cab: four barrels on a common mount could put up a dense screen against low-flying aircraft and served just as well against ground targets.
The combination of a plain tractor and a substantial weapon makes this vehicle a rewarding subject. The model looks good from every side, because the cargo bed is open and you see into it from above: the gunner's seat, the mount and the ammunition stowage. The list of parts and the recommended order of assembly are given in the kit instructions.
Leave the weapon assembly separate from the vehicle until painting, otherwise you will not reach the lower surfaces of the mount and the floor of the cargo bed. Glue the running gear on a flat surface so that the wheels sit in one plane. Apply the paint in thin coats and bring out the edges with a lighter tone; on a vehicle meant to work in mud it also pays to dirty the lower areas.
For modelers of German Second World War vehicles in 1:35 scale and for builders of Eastern Front scenes. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
