About product

Panzerhaubitze 2000 in 1:35 scale - the Meng kit

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzer in 1:35 scale from Meng. Note - it is not a tank but a modern artillery system: the machine fires at long range from covered firing positions, not in direct close combat. In the package you will find a metal (turned) gun barrel, photo-etched parts, clear headlights and periscopes, workable individual track links joined without glue (with double pins), working torsion bar suspension, wire for the tow cable and waterslide decals. The kit does not hold an interior for the fighting compartment - the detail is concentrated on the exterior, the massive turret and the running gear.

The real subject

The PzH 2000 is a German tracked 155 mm self-propelled howitzer with a long barrel of 52 calibers (L/52). It made its name with a high rate of fire - it can put three rounds down within a few seconds - and with great range: around 30 km with standard ammunition and considerably further with special extended-range ammunition. Automated loading and a modern fire control system made it one of the most capable artillery systems in NATO. Besides the Bundeswehr it is used by a number of other armies, and since 2022 it has also been in action in Ukraine, where it was supplied by Germany and the Netherlands.

Building and painting tips

Assemble and glue the running gear before you close the hull up. Clean the individual track links carefully and assemble them in sections on a flat surface - it is the longest part of the build and it pays to split it over several sittings. Bend the photo-etched parts over a metal ruler and fix them with super glue. Degrease the metal barrel before painting and spray it with primer first, or the paint will hold badly. Apply the camouflage with an airbrush; then the final weathering - a dark wash in the recesses, dust and mud pigments on the running gear, wear on the platforms and steps, and smoke traces at the muzzle if you like.

Who the model is for

  • Experienced modelers drawn to modern artillery rather than classic tanks
  • Fans of current Bundeswehr and NATO equipment
  • Collectors who want a strikingly large and intricate machine for the display cabinet
  • Builders of dioramas of present-day conflicts and firing positions

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is a 155 mm self-propelled howitzer - an artillery system that fires at long range from covered positions. Unlike a tank it is not meant for direct combat with armored vehicles, even though it looks similar from the outside.

Yes. It serves in the Bundeswehr and in other armies, and since 2022 it has also been in action in Ukraine, where it was supplied by Germany and the Netherlands.

Rather for the more experienced. The model itself is straightforward to build, but the individual track links are assembled from several parts and cleaning and assembling them takes the most time. Reckon on patience and a sharp knife.

No, the kit does not hold the inside of the fighting compartment. The detail is concentrated on the exterior, the turret, the barrel and the running gear.
